It's been a while since my last reading post! It's
been a bit of a hectic time. I did end up moving, but between the stresses and
long list of to-dos I didn't end up making time for a ritual back in July, but
I'm happy to say that I did get to them for July & August—I just didn't
sit down to write out posts for it all...

I still haven't modified my ritual at all, though I think—if I spare the
time in the next month—that may not be true in October. It's been a
tumultuous month for me; my workplace became more hostile to me, leading to me
getting laid off due to "low sales", and while I've been told to expect an offer
letter soon for a new job I have yet to receive that offer, all the while I am
working towards becoming an Electrical Apprentice! While I've been out of work I
have been working diligently on making my spaces at home feel more comfortable
and welcoming to me. A big part of that process has been getting some furniture
up into my bedroom and soon I'll be decorating the walls & moving my desks up
there as well! It'll be a little cubby of my own personal space available for
all the muses I want to do away from the company of my roommate. There is much
still to do to get myself solidly on my feet, but I feel confident I'll get
there without things getting dire; it's a scary position to be in, but I'm
eternally greatful to be going through it now rather than 3 or 4 years ago, I
would not be able to handle it all as well as I am now.

Tonight's tarot reading felt pretty on point with all that's going on. I went
for the same 4-card spread as usual and the pulls are:

 The Querant

 Ⅳ of Coins

 The Past

 Ⅳ of Chalices

 The Present

 0, The Fool

 The Future

 Knight of Coins

The Querant being the Four of Coins does resonate with my current
situation, to an extent at least. It indicates that I am searching for stability
and control, which I certainly am very much so right now, and that this is
driven by some amount of fear—again very true, but it presumes that I am
in a good place. I wouldn't really call "recently laid off and have no other
income" a good place, fiscally... That said though I have some potential
opportunities coming up that mean I very well should be in a good place pretty
soon! So I'll give it a pass, just this once /j

The Past's pull is the Four of Chalices, it tells me what I already know
to be true but welcome hearing again: that my affairs are in order but I am
dissatisfied with the status quo I've found myself in, & that I have been
unwilling to appreciate the stability I've built for myself. If there's any word
I could use to describe my situation working at my most recent job it would be
"dissatisfied". From the general hostility and unsafe working conditions there
was a lot for me to find repulsive and uncomfortable, and all I could think
about was finding any way to get out of there and move on. I didn't leave
exactly on my own terms but were I not laid off it would've been only a matter
of time before I was quitting, so not really much loss there.

And speaking of moving past old situations into new ones, I drew The Fool
for The Present. I've been planning and working towards a new job situation
for most of the year so far, and it's only now coming together. While the next
job likely won't be the one to take me in an entirely new direction, that new
opportunity is surely not far behind. Seeing The Fool was quite reassuring
in a lot of ways as I know I was given the grace of good luck to be in the
position I am now, and since being laid off threw the habits of my daily life to
the wind so I have almost exclusively been acting on whims. I'm excited for the
(potential) opportunity to take a larger change in careers and work instead as
an Electrician rather than simply a Electronics Manufacturing Technician; I
really do think it's the kind of professian that, while difficult to get started
in, I will thrive once I've reached the Journeyman level.

For all it's faults, the job I've left did give me a lot of skills and
experience working as a Electronics Manufacturing Technician which I was made
very well aware of when I attended a Career Fair—which happened to be the
day before I was laid off, I got to see a handful of people go ahead of me for
the initial interviews, heard some of what was discussed, and I could rest
assured that I had more & better experience than them. When I took the first
interview I felt more confident than I ever have going into a job interview, and
it was a short one before I was taken to the second interview in front of a
panel of 5 interviewers well-knowledged in the positions they were seeking to
fill. Even in front the intimidating presence of all those individuals, I was
able to still push past the nerves, talk about my experience and skills, and
discuss with them how it all relates to what they were looking for. Going
through that whole experience, and being informed last week that I should expect
an offer letter soon, I have been shown what The Future's pull, the Knight
of Coins, is telling me: I am a hard worker, a reliable worker, and I'm damn
good at what I do.

Even if things are not as hopeful as you may have hoped in your own life, I hope
the path forward to a better, more solid future is clear to you, and that you
have the confidence and self-conviction to follow it. 💜 See you
next month!

Tonight's ritual consisted of the same process as last month's, and the reading was the same format as well. Since the last reading I've been feeling a lot of stress and anxiety around finding a new apartment, as well as concern and overworry in some of my personal relationships. I found that tonight's reading aptly highlighted some of the issues as well as reminded me of the positives yet to come.

Here's tonight's reading's pulls:

 The Past

 Queen of Coins - Reversed

 The Present

 Ⅲ of Wands

 The Future

 ⅩⅩⅠ, The World

Lately there have been a lot of things in flux that I've been trying my best to juggle... Planning a move, figuring out my next steps professionally, expanding my interests outside of professional work, enriching my life with social and spiritual activities.. the list goes on. With so much going on it then seems quite apt that the Ⅷ of Chalices presented itself as The Querent in today's reading: a lot has been happening, all of which are attempts to push myself to a better place emotionally, physically, and spiritually; it often feels very near the edge of becoming too much to handle but overall things are heading in a direction that feels good and right. It's too early to tell if these efforts are a success or not but I've prepared myself as best I can and I'm as determined as ever to make it work! Trying to find a balance between all the areas I've been focusing my efforts has been difficult to say the least, but overall I feel that I've found some way of managing to not get too overwhelmed — tho I've certainly felt pretty close to it... The biggest efforts I've been focusing on in the past few weeks has been the all-important apartment hunting, and my robo-critter faceplate project Moonbeam (working title). All the other things I have been working on in the space between, and while it's not the most effective system I have yet to hit a breaking point in my motivation for working on everything, so I'm taking that as a win!

One spot I feel truly uncertain is how well I manage my connections with the people around me. From personal friends to work friends & acquantances, to the friendly faces I run into in my neighborhood, I struggle a hell of a lot to understand how much energy and attention I should devote to these relationships & what I should expect out of them... Here it seems the reversed Queen of Coins provides a little bit of clarity in these emotions. Certainly, when I reflect on the past year or so I can confidently say that I've made great strides in expanding my social bubble and finding wonderful people that I love to spend my time with — a vast improvement to where I was another year before that! But now as a lot of events and issues are coming to a head, both for myself and others, I feel more uncertain than ever about how to balance my wants and needs in social spaces/interactions with the activities I want and need to do that don't necessarily intersect with those social spaces & interactions, and how best to talk to & work with others about managing those needs. Particularly within the last 3 or so months I have been sturggling to feel connected to those I care most about. There's a lot of uncertainty for all of us, and at some level I need to accept that during times like these it's just not going to be even close to ideal; there's too much in flux and too much to think & worry about to expect everything to be how I want it. For now, for me, that means I am not getting the amount of social time with others that I wish I could have, and that's just going to have to be okay. I need to focus on my housing and job prospects in order to ensure I'm financially stable and self-reliant in the future to come back in with postive energy and motivation to my social spheres, and similarly I can't try to solve all of my friends' problems — especially when it literally isn't possible for me to solve their problems. There's no reason I shouldn't trust that they'll handle themselves, as they have done in all the time before I connected with them. And that's okay, it'll be okay.

All of this ties nicely in with The Present's Ⅲ of Wands, I think. I've put in so, so much work over the past year plus to better myself, and I have the physical proof of that progress in the journaling I've taken up. Physically seeing the pages tick over and the bookmarks shift further along the journal as the months pass gives great perspective into how much work I'm actually putting into myself and the things I care about. With the efforts and events of the past couple months it is clear that more work needs to be done, what work is left to do to get where I want to be, and I'm as motivated as ever to get there. All that's left to do is execute on it!

Through all this I find reassurance of the path ahead with The World in The Future's place. There has been and I'm sure will continue to be much pain and growth to achieve my goals, but should I see things through to their completion the success and accomplishment will be palpable. Seeing this card in the upright position for The Future is a welcome contrast to seeing it reversed for The Querent in last month's reading, as it shows that things are turning around for the better since then as I gain direction and confidence in my actions. I am ever more hopeful for the future, despite the terrors presented by the world at large!

May your spring-into-summer time have similar signs of hope and progress! 💜 I'll be back again with another reading after the next full moon on June 11th! If all goes well, it may even be happening in a new apartment too :3

Each Full Moon I engage in a ritual of cleansing my physical space and taking time to reflect on the past lunar-month. The content of the ritual has and will fluctuate as I continue to learn about my spirituality; this month I cleansed with an herb burning of Thyme, Rosemary, Lavendar, and Frankincense, ground roughly to a powder-ish while listening to music I deem Spiritually Powerful — this time it is Jon Hopkin's album titled Ritual. To close out the ritual I performed a tarot reading.

Today's reading was a simple 4-card spread, symbolizing The Querant, The Past, The Present, & The Future.

The drawings:

The Querant

ⅩⅩⅠ, The World - Reveresed

The Past

Ⅶ, The Chariot

The Present

Ⅰ of Wands

The Future

ⅩⅤ, The Devil

FYI

"The Querent" is the one for whom the reading is being performed (so in this instance, me). I still need to remind myself what it means as it's not a word I had read or heard at all before getting into Tarot, but a trick that has helped me remember it is by making a connection with the root of the word: the querent is the one asking the query!

With the reversed The World card shown for The Querant, the reading calls me out for working too hard and spreading myself too thin, failing to follow through on projects to their completion. In doing so I keep to my comfort zones as a mechanism of avoiding and protecting myself form the world at large, hurting myself in the process. I think this process has been happening for a very long time, really since 2020 when the weight of the pandemic and my worsening mental and physical health really wore me down. This isn't an uncommon sentiment I'm sure, but it is sad to be looking back and realize all the hurt and struggle that I went through to make it to where I am now, even though it's not remarkably better than before. If you're going through similar struggles & realizations, I hope you can find some paths that will suit you better than what has come before 💜.

The Past is marked by The Chariot. Running counter the The Querant, The Chariot tells me that while I've largely stayed in my own bubble to my own detriment there is yet signs of steady progression and clear goals. There is a motivation behind my actions which is showing a direction within the madness, and what difficulties I encounter are approached carefully, taken seriously, and ultimately overcome. For a long time I've had several hobby projects I've rotated around, coming back to some and abandoning others, recently I've had a couple of ideas that have really stuck in my mind, and I see a few paths for how they can grow into something more than just a hobby project, into something that can grow beyond me and become something for the world to have, and that has been exciting for me to realize! I'm hoping that it won't take more than a year to realize these into something I can share and maybe even sell, but there's lots to be done first, like moving and finding a new job...

Speaking of which finding a path to a new job, and a new academic/professional career eventually, has been a big project in itself. I've ruminated on it for the majority of the past couple years as my contempt for my present job — electronics assembly technician & engineering support for a contract manufacturer, has reached critical levels. The current idea is to get hired at Starbucks, accept the lower income and deal with it accordingly while utilizing the flexibility of scheduling to better take care of myself and those I love in my down time. If I can stay employed there long enough to become eligible for the benefits I will utilize them to take classes at Arizona State University where I can take classes online and get the knowledge and resources I need to successfully start a business and design & sell products! Ideally anyway. I've also been working on a long-lost hobby of mine: making music. It's one that's been abandoned for far too long and I'm excited to be getting back into it! I'm having to re-teach myself a lot of things of course, but the practice has been so fun and I really hope I can make something of it.

With the Ace of Wands in The Present's position I see that the initial workings of big things are underway. With creative energy being cultivated with fresh energy, clarity and focus arises from within. Exciting opportunities could be ahead if I take advantage of this invigorating energy coming to me. Indeed in the couple hobby projects I've mentioned already and the paths I see for them, having that vision of what they can become — and the energy working on them has provided, has given me a lot of hope for what they may become! As always there is much uncertainty in is yet to come, especially now, but at least there's something to look forward to doing and making through the chaos.

Finally, The Devil stands in the place of The Future. Unsurprisingly, The Devil represents our compulsions and desires, and I believe it to be wise to pay attention when it comes up. Some positive things may come out of our compulsions and desires, but left unchecked it can be damaging to ourselves and our ambitions, turning passions into vices. There are so many things I can claim being passionate about, and I don't particularly see any of them getting to the point of taking over my life working on them but certainly that can change. For now I am far too focused on & stressed about moving and finding the next job for me to focus too much on the passions that tug at my heart. Once moving is done though things certainly can and will change when my free time can open up and I can refocus on my projects. Until then, there is not much point in stressing about what The Devil is telling me.

All in all I feel pretty good about what this reading fortells. There's lot I can apply to the current happenings of my life, and Tarot has been a great tool for introspecting and giving myself a time to check-in, making sure I don't get too lost in the draining repetiveness of life. Time will tell how my use of Tarot changes over time, and how much more it grows on my, but for now I'm feeling very optimistic about it!

Recently I was running into an issue with my main desktop taking a while to boot up. It would stall on a start job for the Journal Service — "A start job is running for Journal Service (xx/1m30s)" — and it would take around a minute to start and the OS finish booting. I ignored it for a while as it wasn't much of a bother, but as it continued to happen I was curious as to what was going on.. My system boots from a modern NVMe SSD and should be plenty speedy for whatever I/O ops need to happen to get the system started, so why was the Journal Service taking so long?

A quick search yielded this Arch Linux forum post (archive) describing an identical issue as mine, and I noticed the same "usb X-X: device descriptor read/64, error -110" type errors in my boot log that OP noticed! Error 110 as described in errno.h is
ETIMEDOUT
: Connection timed out, so it appears that some USB device is failing to communicate with the system in a timely manner. OP goes on to state that they solved their issue by unplugging all USB devices connected to the system and, checking with a boot each time, determine which device(s) were causing the error. Great! Just one problem: the problem persists for me even with no USB devices connected.... I thought maybe it could possible be one of the hubs, I know that many modern motherboards will have internally wired USB hubs for various on-board devices like system LEDs and my motherboard is one of those GamerTM boards with RGB Everything. I took a look through the UEFI settings to see if there was any options for disabling USB ports or hubs to no avail, so I decided to open up the case and take a look around — if you know anything about maintaining computers I'm sure you can guess where this is going... Fiddling with things here and there didn't really yield anything, all the connectors were still connected properly, GPU was fully seated, etc. until it came to the RAM. The first stick I pressed down on had some give to it, it wasn't fully seated in the slot. Doh! Lo and behold on the next boot after ensuring the RAM was fully seated the system started right up with no delays, the problem was solved!

As always when funky things happen and the usual troubleshooting routes lead to dead ends, try reseating your RAM.
